An invite to Paris it pains me to turn down

I got invited by the lovely Nicole Akong creater and owner of the amazing jewellery brand Akong to Akong’s AW12 collection in Paris next week. Nicole has also been chosen by Swarovski to be one of their exclusive ateliers for A/W 12 which is truly fantastic and a great boost and accolade for Akong. Alas I am off to gay Paree at the beginning of April so cannot justify(or afford) two trips. However, I love Akong and cannot wait to see her new collection. Here are some teasers………………. http://www.akonglondon.com/

Where I realise JUST how lucky I am……..

I am a very lucky person. Look what my friend Veronique sent me for Christmas! A fantastic medieval cross on Biba chain (featured on the front of this post) and medieval bangles (below) from Mirabelle jewellery! I feel like Maid Marion but far more stylish, now where is that Robin Hood hiding! For those of you not in the know, I also write Mirabelle’s blog for the Mirabelle Jewellery website. Mirabelle is a fantastic ethical jewellery website, much loved by the fashion pack and those in the know. Mirabelle...

I’ve been a very bad girl………

Bouyed up by a very boozy Christmas lunch yesterday I ended up in the Swarovski shop on the Brompton Road. I ended up falling inlove with this Purple Red ring. Its very rock chick and reminds me of Stephen Webster’s jewellery but at a fraction of the price. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I also (it was the wine you understand) bought this black Nirvana ring (BELOW) that I had my eye on for years. Am a very happy chick, albeit a hungover and poorer one! www.swarovski.co.uk Ruby EDITOR...

A little something for the girls who have nothing

An Angel at my Table I love mooching around in a fantasy of froth and frenchness this website ‘An Angel at my Table’. It sells a random selection of homewares, jewellery and knick knacks and its just lovely. I love these bracelets as they remind me of old Parisien seamstresses toiling away producing perfect couture that none of us can afford to wear. So wear these instead. www.anangelatmytable.co.uk

Me and Zena and Mare St Hackney

Me and Zena As a writer I love the tools of my craft, and the tools are unsurprisingly, pens, paper, pencil sharpeners and of course the computer. So I loved coming across these fabulous bracelets shaped like a pencil (featured pic) and the anchor necklaces (below). I also loved their signature necklaces shaped like a robot (a nod to the computer). Chatting to Emily who does the marketing for MeandZena jewellery, I was delighted to discover that MeandZena (owned by Zena McKeown) operate out of Mare St Studios in...

Mad Hatters, tea and Curious creatures

I went for afternoon tea last Friday at the Sanderson Hotel in Central London and it wasn’t just endless cups of tea, old dears, cucumber sarnies with the crusts off and salmon paste offerings, the old dears were there alright but there were a lot of not so old dears (me) and a lot of young dears (my colleague). Well anyway the tea was based on Alice and Wonderlands Mad Hatters Tea Party and was awesome, you literally had very little idea what you were putting in your mouth...

Recessioned out – Fiddling while Rome burns

I don’t know about you guys but I am sick to the absolute back teeth of this sodding recession. How long has this been going on for now? Years!!! I am afraid to buy a pack of crisps such is the fear of armageddon pervading at the moment. Now I keep hearing about how fantastic the boom years were before 2008, where was I is the question I often ask myself.  I personally never actually had financial good times, in fact these last few years haven’t been too bad...

Tatty Devine and The Pansy Project

I can be quite a tough cookie to crumble, but upon hearing news of the tragic suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer, the 14 year old video blogger subject to homophobic bullying, I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. How could anybody subject an innocent person to such despair is beyond my comprehension, and I think it’s imperative that high profile figures such as Lady Gaga continue in their efforts and support of the gay community. I was very pleased to learn that my darling favourite Tatty Devine are on the same...

Something old something new something knackered……

We all have them, those random single earrings, broken chains, bits of necklaces, half a bracelet. What also gets me is if you are anything like me, you never actually throw anything out! There they all are languishing, all broken and sad in the scrapheap of a drawer or jewellery box or dressing room table or kitchen table in my case waiting for action but never quite getting any because they don’t come as part of a pair or they used to be great, quite special even and now...
