Me and Zena and Mare St Hackney

Me and Zena As a writer I love the tools of my craft, and the tools are unsurprisingly, pens, paper, pencil sharpeners and of course the computer. So I loved coming across these fabulous bracelets shaped like a pencil (featured pic) and the anchor necklaces (below). I also loved their signature necklaces shaped like a robot (a nod to the computer). Chatting to Emily who does the marketing for MeandZena jewellery, I was delighted to discover that MeandZena (owned by Zena McKeown) operate out of Mare St Studios in...

Ethical shoes go chic – Beyond Skin SS12 collection

Beyond Skin I had a great week last week attending the press days of some great brands as part of London press week. I was really impressed with Beyond Skin’s SS12 collection. For those of you not in the know (and I WAS one of you until last week) Beyond Skin is an ethical shoe label and according to them they like to ‘trade in a manner that is kind to our fellow humans, animals and wherever possible, our precious planet.’ Now whenever I hear sustainable, ethical, planet saving...

Femmes Dangereuses

I like to think of myself as a bit of a dangerous gal, skirting perilously close to the dark side (usually on the edge of a pavement after a few scoops on a night out on the tiles). I blame my hair, which is unruly, I don’t have a pension, hell I don’t even have a job at the moment, so its fair to say I might know what I’m talking about. However being dangerous (careless, or in my case not using a hairbrush much),is far more interesting than...

Post Its go all 21st century…..

I love POST ITs! In my opinion they are the best inventions ever, I particularly like the giant ones and the ones in pink and blue. I write all kinds of nonsense on them, they pop up all over the place, all dog eared, years later in jargon I always fail to understand but clearly meant at the time! I’ve found them in my bed, stuck to the back of coats and jumpers, attached to food stuffs in the fridge and in my knicker drawer (don’t ask) to name...

Hanging on the POP phone……………………….(as in the Blondie song)

POP PHONE Its that time of year again when a gal like me gets invited to all sorts of interesting previews and events showcasing the next big thing for SS12 and beyone. Being a naturally nosy sort I love sniffing around and finding new things and I was very taken with this new invention which is so simple I am surprised no-one else has thought of it before……………..Readers I bring you the POP PHONE! Now before you all think my brain has gone POP and popped right out of...

Mad Hatters, tea and Curious creatures

I went for afternoon tea last Friday at the Sanderson Hotel in Central London and it wasn’t just endless cups of tea, old dears, cucumber sarnies with the crusts off and salmon paste offerings, the old dears were there alright but there were a lot of not so old dears (me) and a lot of young dears (my colleague). Well anyway the tea was based on Alice and Wonderlands Mad Hatters Tea Party and was awesome, you literally had very little idea what you were putting in your mouth...

Perfect Pins? As easy as A, B, C !

Three things to consider about the alphabet: 1. While grossly delicious, Alphabetti Spaghetti will not assist your winning ‘Come Dine With Me’ 2. It’s perfectly acceptable, even encouraged to Create Your Own phonetic alphabet (‘G’ for Grazia…) 3. Its letters are THE accessory to adorn your legs with this winter Henry Holland’s House of Holland succeeds yet again, this time with a quirky kick which should be added to the uniform of primary school teachers nationwide. The ever-stylish Kourtney Kardashian stepped out in hers, teaming hers with killer ankle...

Recessioned out – Fiddling while Rome burns

I don’t know about you guys but I am sick to the absolute back teeth of this sodding recession. How long has this been going on for now? Years!!! I am afraid to buy a pack of crisps such is the fear of armageddon pervading at the moment. Now I keep hearing about how fantastic the boom years were before 2008, where was I is the question I often ask myself.  I personally never actually had financial good times, in fact these last few years haven’t been too bad...

Hats off – Katherine Elizabeth hat preview

I was very kindly invited to a preview of Katherine Elizabeth’s fantastic millinery collection in uber trendy Sketch last night. For those of you who like me, have been terrified to even pass Sketch never mind have the brass neck to enter its hallowed doors, believe you me ladies, the terror is real very very real. It takes the form of a very brusque, business like guy who was commanding the front reception. The man was obsessed with cleanliness and hygiene and was quite adament that none of the attendees (me included)...

Come into my boudoir………

Now thats an invitation few should refuse (and despite constant perseverance on my part over the years) but many have. So knowing when to cut my losses and run I’ve given up attempting to lure em in! Anyway you, (me included) have been invited into this particular boudoir - BOUDOIR PRIVE to be more exact every month! Allow me to explain further….. The Boudoir Privé Story In the 18th century, a woman’s boudoir was her sanctum. A place to retreat, reflect and experiment with her hair and beauty in the comfort of...
