Tatty Devine and The Pansy Project

I can be quite a tough cookie to crumble, but upon hearing news of the tragic suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer, the 14 year old video blogger subject to homophobic bullying, I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. How could anybody subject an innocent person to such despair is beyond my comprehension, and I think it’s imperative that high profile figures such as Lady Gaga continue in their efforts and support of the gay community. I was very pleased to learn that my darling favourite Tatty Devine are on the same...

Pom-Pom Par-tay!

How great is this photo of Nicki Minaj sitting akin to Anna Wintour at Carolina Herrera the SS12 show? Illustrating a strange sort of harmony within the  fashion world , it highlights how the music industry continue conduct itself as a driving influence across the strongest catwalks and designers. While head-to-toe pom poms may be a tad extreme for some, I spotted this  kooky bag at the TK Maxx preview. Nicki Minaj definitely has my vote – hurrah for the bizarre! Electric Ladybird x

GUESS parties with Vogue Fashion’s Night Out!

I do love an occasion.  8th September 2011 marks the GUESS Vogue Fashion’s Night Out. The event, described as an ‘after-hours shopping extravaganza’ is in the diary of any fashionista worth her weight in luxe. I will be heading to GUESS on London’s Regent Street (their flagshop store), who have two  fabulous new offerings, raising money for the Kids Company charity which provides emotional, practical and educational support to children and young people. The first (1) is a printed tee featuring the beautiful Drew Barrymore in the brand’s 1987 ad campaign....

For the love of fetish…

Rhianna wanted whips and chains; fashion happily obliged. AW11 brings with it its darkest, fantastical offerings. Since Lady Gaga’s daring performance at Thierry Mugler’s Paris Fashion Week show, fashion bled fetish onto the catwalk. While Giles and McQueen hit the trend hardcore – head-to-toe leather, chains, latex – houses Dior and Christopher Kane prefer to nod to naughtiness, walking black silk and lace in delicate yet conspicuous style. Critics of the fetish scene would argue its demeaning dominance, but this fashion displays the strong woman styling such bondage around...

Hat-trick

I never thought I was a ‘hat-person’. At the tender age of seven, yours truly was happily entertaining herself in the playground, donning a terrific mullet and suitable baseball cap. The following words were about to haunt me forever: “Are you a boy or a girl?” Eyes swelling with tears, I glanced at the brutish lad who spilled such a question, before sprinting to parental safety. I never wore a baseball cap again. 7th September 2010:Berwick Street, London. During a standard shopping session in a vintage store, I spot a masterpiece. Rich, bloodied burgundy in colour,...

Ahoy, Hoisery!

‘I do recommend it for all girls, and boys, out there: put on a pair of fishnet stockings and find your inner sexiness!’ -Nia Vardalos  A lady in stockings exudes the two crucial ‘C’s’ – class and confidence. I believe it a physical impossibility to adorn stockings under a rather more conservative outfit, without wearing a flicker of a smile or a skip in step. Such poise will undoubtedly affect personal mood  – I think of this as instant therapy! The rising of hemlines by the darling Flapper Girls took...

The Zandra Rhodes Jewellery Collection

The Zandra Rhodes Jewellery Collection was never going to go unnoticed. My grandmother has a glass trinket box on her dressing table. As a tiny girl I would peer into this feminine heaven and decorate all three foot of me in exquisite broaches, charms and jewels. With the vital addition of ‘genuine’ Christmas Cracker Pearls, I felt every inch the princess. Upon discovering Zandra’s collaboration with Adele Marie, waves of nostalgia washed over me, a grown lass with a never-ending penchant for dressing up. I have always admired Zandra’s...

Kumihimo, darling! Bracelets by Tanya Walker

The  braid: whether Heidi or Grecian Goddess, such style exudes a straight-laced cheekiness that traverses from infancy to beyond. While out shopping in my local florist, I happened upon these delightful specimens by designer and creator Tanya Walker. Tanya’s inspiration for these intricate bracelets initially sourced from research into plaiting techniques for her floristry qualification, when she discoverd Kumihimo. This ancient Japanese technique was originally used by samurai to decorate armour and in is a form of finger-loop braiding. Tanya’s background in floristry provides her designs with an artistic fluidity, capturing colour and...

I love thee Forever (21)

With great joy I welcome a new relationship into my life; one I don’t mind sharing with every savvy lass in London Town. Wednesday 27th July 2011 marked the grand opening of Forever 21 in Oxford Street, W1.The last time I stepped into such emporium was rather an eventful mini-break to The Big Apple. Between collapsing on the aeroplane and subsequently being strapped to oxygen (before misplacing my passport en route from customs)*, I made certain that Forever 21 was on the Hit List. While the US chain is...
